Why Tim Cone is moving to Ginebra, according to SMC big boss Ramon Ang
By MARISSE PANALIGAN, GMA News
San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang confirmed the move of Star coach Tim Cone to Barangay Ginebra on Tuesday, while revealing the reason for the transfer.
Speaking to reporters during the victory party for San Miguel Beer's title win in the Governors' Cup, Ang said it was the wish of the Gin Kings' fans to have the winningest coach in PBA as the team's tactician.
"I think we'll just give in to the request of the fans," he said.
Ang said they are not setting any expectations for Cone, who will be Ginebra's seventh coach since 2008.
"We'll just hope na ma-gel niya 'yung team at makabigay ng magandang resulta," he said.
For the Hotshots, which is set to be led by rookie coach Jason Webb, the big boss said they are also hoping for positive results.
"Of course we always hope that all our teams will do well," he said. But hindi naman natin matitiyak 'yun. We can only hope."
Ginebra has not won a championship since the 2008 Fiesta Conference and has failed to go deep into the playoffs in the last two years.
Star, meanwhile, is coming off a down season in 2015 after winning a rare Grand Slam in 2014. —JST, GMA News
