No hard feelings for Gary David despite missing final Gilas cut

When Gary David missed the 12-man roster of Gilas Pilipinas for the FIBA Asia Championships, a number of fans expressed the opinion that the Meralco gunner deserves a spot in the national team.

David himself, however, took the cut in stride and continues to support the squad he has been training with since the last week of July.

"Ever since naman na napasama ako sa pool, sabi ko pool 'to, kahit anong mangyari I'm honored. Wala namang problema sa akin," he said after watching Gilas' first game in the MVP Cup against Talk 'N Text on Friday night.

One of the six holdovers from the last incarnation of Gilas, David was instead named as one of the reserve players along with incoming PBA rookie Troy Rosario.

The two of them may be tapped in case of injuries, which FIBA rules allow until the eve of the tournament's opening.

David willingly accepted that responsibility and continues to attend Gilas Pilipinas practices, making the sacrifice for the sake of serving the flag.

"Kinausap naman ako ni coach Tab e," he said, adding that he could not really say no to the American-Kiwi coach after everything Gilas went through. "Hanggat makakaya ko, makakatulong o makakasuporta, gagawin ko."

David expressed gratitude to the fans who believe in his abilities, but said that they have to respect the decision of the coaching staff.

"Thank you sa suporta nilang binibigay sa akin," he said. "Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila." - RAF, GMA News
