PBA PHILIPPINE CUP

Arwind Santos on epic title run: 'Ang tamis, nakaka-diabetes'

Arwind Santos could not help but wax poetic after San Miguel Beer completed a historic comeback from 0-3 down to win the PBA Smart-Bro Philippine Cup title on Wednesday night.

The Beermen missed their main man June Mar Fajardo who got injured in the semifinals and found themselves lost with his absence in the first three games of the championship series. But the Beermen came alive in Game Four to stage an unprecedented epic run to bag the championship.

For Santos, the sweetness of the comeback is something that he's never tasted before in his storied basketball career.

"Pinakamatamis sa lahat ng bunga na natikman ko mula ng ako’y natuto maglaro ng basketball," he said. "Sobrang tamis, nakaka-diabetes. Isang tikim lang, diabetes na ‘to."

The former Most Valuable Player's best comment, however, came when he grew candid in his words as he tried to summed up the feat they just achieved.

"Kahit patay na kami, buhay pa rin 'yung story, 'yung legacy na nagawa namin," he said. "Ang Alaska malakas rin. Hindi talaga namin in-expect na matatalo namin sila ng apat na sunod."

Despite savoring the moment, Santos was quick to remember their embarrassing exit in the Commissioner's Cup last season after winning the All-Filipino title.

"Dapat hindi dumating sa point na maging overconfident kami o lahat kaya na namin," he said.

"Binabalik lang dapat namin 'yung mga blessings kay God at sa mga kasama namin." — APG, GMA News
