A week before Phoenix Petroleum begins its Commissioner's Cup campaign, the newest PBA franchise has promised to build a competitive and winning team.
Facing the press for the first time since buying the Barako Bull franchise three weeks ago, Phoenix president and team governor Dennis Uy said the oil company is honored to finally be a part of the league.
The Davao-based business took five years of application before finally getting the opportunity to own a franchise in the PBA.
"It has always been a dream for us in the company and for me as a basketball enthusiast to be part of this prestigious league," Uy said. "Phoenix Petroleum has always been an active supporter of sports and our entry in the PBA is a milestone."
Phoenix inherited a Barako lineup which finished a respectable eighth in the Philippine Cup last conference after years of tinkering its roster through trades.
The Phoenix CEO seeks to emulate their business growth as a small enterprise to a successful independent oil company in running the Fuel Masters as a PBA squad.
"We will all give each and everyone a good fight," said alternate governor Raymond Zorrilla. "We guarantee you that we will fight with integrity and enthusiasm."
