Mark Caguioa throws shade on Gilas after Tenorio, Abueva cut: ‘Heart over height anytime’
A few days after Gilas Pilipinas announced its 12-man roster for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Barangay Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa expressed his opinion on the decision to drop Calvin Abueva and LA Tenorio from the lineup.
The four-time PBA champion and former Most Valuable Player did not mention any names in his post on his Twitter account, but his message seems to be directed at the national team.
I'll take Heart over height anytime dapat pala palitan yung hashtag wag ng puso kundi #height
— Mark Caguioa (@officialMC47) June 30, 2016
Former Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes earlier explained that the coaching staff decided to prioritize size for the final OQT lineup. Both Abueva and Tenorio are the shortest in their respective positions at the forward and guard spots.
Fans were not happy with the decision when the announcement was made on Sunday, and it looks like Caguioa shares their sentiments especially with Tenorio being his teammate.
Gilas Pilipinas will play France on Tuesday for their first game of the tournament.
The team will be fighting with Andray Blatche, June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Marc Pingris, Troy Rosario, Ranidel De Ocampo, Gabe Norwood, Ray Parks, Jeff Chan, Ryan Reyes, Terrence Romeo, and Jayson Castro. — RSJ, GMA News
