AFTER NEW ZEALAND HEARTBREAKER

Jayson Castro says he may have played final game for Gilas Pilipinas

Jayson Castro may have played his last game wearing a Gilas Pilipinas jersey following the team's 89-80 loss to New Zealand in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old point guard, still heartbroken over Gilas' early exit in the Olympic qualifier, said he may have just made his last appearance clad in Philippine colors.

"Siguro this is my last na," he said when asked by reporters whether fans could still see him in future international tournaments for Gilas.

Castro has been a pillar of the Philippines' resurgence in international basketball, winning all-tournament honors in the 2013 and 2015 editions in the FIBA Asia Championship, both of which saw the country bag the silver.

He finished with 13 points, three assists, and two rebounds for the team against the Tall Blacks, but the national team just couldn't get on a momentum-swinging run against New Zealand.

"Ang sama ng game namin. 'Di namin alam kung anong nangyari e. Outhustled, outplayed, lahat na," he said.

With the loss, Philippines was eliminated after also bowing to France on Tuesday, 93-84. --JST, GMA News
