Dwight Ramos scores 22 as Toyama books back-to-back wins; Juan GDL, Carino absorb losses in B2
Dwight Ramos was firing on all cylinders as he lifted the Toyama Grouses past the Akita Northern Happinets, 99-91, in the 2021-2022 Japan B. League on Saturday at the Toyama City Gymnasium.
Ramos, who was also instrumental in the team's previous win against Hiroshima, dropped 22 points, five steals, three rebounds, and one assist as the Grouses improved to 10-17.
Aside from Ramos, also pivotal for Toyama were Brice Johnson, who finished with a double-double of 22 markers, 14 boards, and a dime, as well as Julian Mavunga who listed 16 points and five rebounds.
Toyama will try to make it a three wins in a row when it faces the same team on Sunday at 12:05 p.m. (Manila time).
Ramos was the lone Filipino import in Division 1 who saw action today as the games of six other reinforcements were postponed as several players were placed under COVID-19 safety and health protocols.
Kiefer Ravena and the Shiga Lakestars were supposed to face the Mikawa Seahorses while his brother Thirdy and the San-en NeoPhoenix were scheduled to play Levanga Hokkaido.
Ray Parks' Nagoya and Javi Gomez de Liaño' Ibaraki were also tipped to face off against each other while the meeting between Kobe Paras' Niigata Albirex BB and the Osaka Evessa was also moved to a later date.
Matthew Aquino and the Shinshu Brave Warriors were also scheduled to battle the Hiroshima Dragonflies.
Meanwhile, both the clubs of Filipino reinforcements Kemark Carino and Juan Gomez de Liaño suffered losses in Division 2.
Carino's Aomori Wat's were dealt with a 106-67 defeat by the Kumamoto Volters as they slid to a 2-27 win-loss card in the team standings.
Former UP standout Juan Gomez de Liaño didn't see action for the Earthfriends Tokyo Z as his squad fell to Sendai 89ers, 92-70. They dropped to 5-24.
Both Tokyo Z and Aomori return to action on Sunday.
