Gilas Pilipinas looks to repeat over India as FIBA World Cup qualifiers make stop in PH

Gilas Pilipinas will look to duplicate its previous win over India when the two nations collide in the third window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers slated to be hosted by the Philippines on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Filipinos are coming off a 106-60 loss to powerhouse New Zealand last Thursday but will look to put that behind them as they take on the South Asian squad at 7:30 p.m. in home soil.

The Philippines has a winning history over India.

In the previous window, Gilas manhandled India, 88-64, with young guns Dwight Ramos and Thirdy Ravena piloting their offense. Ramos showed the way with 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists while Ravena chipped in 15 markers.

On the other hand, India will continue to rely on Sahaij Pratap Singh Sekho and Prashant Singh Rawat who led the team in their los to the Philippines.

Gilas, though, is bannered by a different roster this time around with a mixture of Asian league imports, college standouts, and amateur stars heeding the call of duty.

Kiefer Ravena is the lone PBA player in the roster with the likes of B.League and KBL imports such as Ramos, RJ Abarrientos, and SJ Belangel composing the team.

They are joined by NCAA rookie MVP Rhenz Abando, Carl Tamayo, Dave Ildefonso, Will Navarro, Francis Lopez, Geo Chiu, and Kevin Quiambao.
