Tim Cone says he's looking forward to Gilas coaching job — if SBP offer comes

Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone

Tim Cone said he's ready to accept the vacant Gilas Pilipinas coaching post, if ever the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) offers it to him.

As of writing, the basketball body has yet to announce the name of the man who will take charge of the national team but Cone's name has stirred the most noise online.

The multi-titled mentor was the architect behind Gilas' Asian Games resurgence that gave the Philippines its first gold medal in 61 years.

But while everything remains up in the air, Cone said he's willing to accept the job once the opportunity presents itself.

"If they did choose me, I’m looking forward to doing it," Cone said on Sunday.

"They (SBP) haven’t told me anything so it’s hard for me to comment. But literally, I didn’t get a call," Cone added.

But Cone stressed he has yet to process what's next for him, especially since his Barangay Ginebra side just fell to San Miguel in their best-of-five semifinals series.

"I know that we have talked about it but I think that’s just for another setting, I’m not ready to talk about that. I’m kinda down at the moment, kinda upset so I don’t want to talk about something that’s outside of this game."

Staring at a 0-2 series hole, the Gin Kings put up a gallant fight in Game 3 but the Beermen flaunted their depth led by import Bennie Boatwright, Marcio Lassiter, CJ Perez, and June Mar Fajardo.

Cone admitted the sweep stung as they won't be able to defend their crown they won back in January 2023 against powerhouse Bay Area.
