Kiefer Ravena to continue Japan stint, at least for now

Despite his contract with the Yokohama B-Corsairs recently expiring, Kiefer Ravena said he still plans to continue playing in Japan next season.

Ravena confirmed this on Saturday on the sidelines of the Japan B.League Final Week event at SM Megamall.

“Next for Japan, I'm very blessed to be able to play the way I played this season. Big props to my team here locally from my skills coaches, my strength and conditioning coach kasi it's a year-long plan. You have to really prepare for it to be able to play consistently in a high level such as the B-League,” Ravena said while reflecting on his latest campaign.

“'Yung plans ko naman moving forward, I think I still want to play overseas. I think my body can still play overseas. But yeah, I'm going back to Japan next season.”

The former Gilas Pilipinas guard, however, remained mum on which team he will suit up for next.

“I can't say where, but abangan n'yo na lang news na 'yon.”

Ravena added that his family remains among the key factors in deciding his next move.

“Siyempre, you want to plan as much as you can for the future. But at the same time, you can't look too far ahead. So, I just want to make the most out of the opportunities. Ngayon of course, basketball has changed a lot, the landscape and how it's being played, especially out in Japan, competition-wise. So, habang kaya pa ng katawan, habang kaya pa ng utak maglaro, subok lang nang subok,” he said.

While Ravena is set to remain overseas, he also clarified that he is not shutting the door on a possible return to the PBA.

“Of course not, of course not. I'm just trying to maximize my career right now. I've always loved playing with NLEX and I really owe a lot to the management, to the team. For now, of course, I've got to think of myself and maximizing my opportunities overseas.”

Ravena has been playing in the Japan B.League since 2021.
