LOOK: Public viewing of Rene Baterbonia opens at Ateneo de Davao

The public viewing to pay respects to the late Ateneo basketball player Rene Baterbonia began Friday afternoon at the Christ the King Chapel in Ateneo de Davao Senior High School - Bangkal Campus.

In a social media post, Ateneo de Davao University said visitors have been arriving at the chapel to honor their "dear Atenean.”

The university said the public viewing would be open until 5 p.m.

Visitors were reminded to bring a valid identification card to gain entry to the campus. Ateneo de Davao also reiterated its policy prohibiting plastics inside the campus.

Photos and videos released by the university showed community members gathering at the chapel to offer prayers and condolences.

“In grief, we gather. In love, we hold on. In hope, we remember,” the university said.

Baterbonia and fellow Ateneo student-athlete Divine Adili died due to drowning during a team building activity at a beach resort in Dipaculao, Aurora on June 8.

Initially, Baterbonia’s wake was held at the Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City on Monday. He was transported and arrived in Davao City early Friday morning.

In a statement, Ateneo de Davao University said a public viewing will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. Viewing hours on Saturday and Sunday will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The university also announced that Holy Masses will be conducted from Friday to Sunday beginning at 7 p.m. —Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
