Pacquiao-Mayweather tickets finally go on sale
By MARISSE PANALIGAN, GMA News
Tickets for the megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are finally set to go on sale on Thursday (Friday PHL time), erasing any doubts that the bout will push through on May 2 (May 3, PHL time).
A dispute between Top Rank and Mayweather Promotions delayed the contract signing with the MGM Grand Garden Arena, but the issue was resolved thanks to CBS president Les Moonves according to Yahoo Sports.
A conference call was held to sort out the concerns of the two parties, and the deal was finally sealed before Tuesday midnight.
"We resolved all of the issues and now we're waiting for the paperwork," said Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao. "I said on the call that if what we agreed upon is in the paperwork we receive, we will sign it and the tickets will be released."
Tickets are priced $1,500, $2,500, $3,500, $5,000, and $7,500, while the $10,000 ticket will not be available for the public.
Senator Harry Reid is also said to have helped in ironing out the deal with the MGM Grand according to Arum.
Reid, a former amateur boxer, campaigned with Pacquiao in 2010. The Nevada representative called for the megafight when he met the Filipino ring icon in Capitol Hill last February.
"Senator Reid considers it part of his basic responsibility as Nevada’s senator to put Nevada first and fight for Nevada’s economy," said Kristen Orthman, Reid's deputy communications director. - RAF, GMA News
