Evander Holyfield on fighting Mike Tyson: 'I think it's going to happen'

Retired heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield firmly believes that a third fight with Mike Tyson will come to fruition.

In an interview with TMZ, the 58-year-old Holyfield stated that he is willing to run it back with the 54-year-old Tyson because it is the fight that fans want to see.

"That's the only guy that I see that the people want. If you do anything, you do it for the people. The people are what make things go around. If it wasn't for the people I wouldn't be saying nothing to him," said Holyfield.

"I'm a very confident person. I think it's going to happen. I think we will come together. Just a little bit more time. I'm ready," he added.

Tyson and Holyfield share one of the most storied rivalries in boxing history. In 1996, Holyfield stunned Tyson when he defeated the latter by eleventh-round technical knockout to claim the WBA world heavyweight title.

A rematch took place seven months later, in which Tyson was disqualified after he bit a piece off Holyfield's ear.

After Tyson's successful eight-round exhibition with former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr. in November, the ex-heavyweight champion revealed that his team was in talks with Holyfield's team but failed to come to terms.

Holyfield acknowledged that there were indeed talks of a potential fight as he is equally expressed his eagerness to share the ring with Tyson for the third time.

"We definitely had conversations with him," he said. "It looks like it's going to happen. Let's do it baby, simple as that! Let's do it." —MGP, GMA News
