PHL ends 2017 SEA Games quest, finishing 6th with 24 gold medals
The Philippines ended its 2017 Sea Games quest in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Wednesday, finishing sixth overall after collecting 121 medals.
The country bagged a total of 24 gold medals during the 11-day event, five medals short of the 29 it had snatched in the 2013 (held in Myanmar) and 2015 SEA Games (held in Singapore).

The Philippines is also going home with 33 silver medals, and 64 bronze medals. The Philippines had targeted to win 50 gold medals.

Filipino athletes from squash and pencak silat were still able to squeeze in a few more medals in the last remaining hours of the biennial multi-sport event.
The Philippines bagged a silver in the Men's Team category of squash courtesy of Robert Andrew Garcia, Reymark Begornia, David William Pelino, and Juan Rafael Yam; while their female counterparts bagged a bronze.

The country also took home a silver medal in the Men's Regu of sepak takraw.

The last Filipino athlete to compete in the 2017 SEA Games was Kathryn Magno in the women's short track speed skating. She finished second in Heat 1 of the competition, but finished last in the finals.
The 2017 SEA Games ended with Malaysia finishing in first place, followed by Thailand, in the overall standings.
The Philippines' gold medal haul is the lowest since 1999, when the country bagged only 19 gold medals. However, that constitutes 2.44 percent of all the 778 gold medals up for grabs. This year, the country's gold medal haul constitutes a lower 1.79 percent of the 1,334 available medals.
