UP partners with Azkals to improve Diliman Football Field

The UP Diliman Football Field will enjoy a facelift after the university partnered with the Philippine Azkals Foundation Inc. to improve the pitch as part of the campus' sports complex zone.

In a report posted in UP's official website, President Alfredo Pascual signed the memorandum of agreement with Azkals team manager Dan Palami on Thursday.

The pitch, which hosted several UAAP games in the past, will be officially named as the "UP-Azkals Football Field."

Pascual welcomed the development as a source of motivation for the athletes competing for the university and for the country.

"Which athlete would not be inspired to train harder if given new equipment or training grounds?" he said.

Palami, who became active in the UP athletic program last year after assuming team manager duties for the Men's Basketball Team, echoed the sentiment.

“If we all work together to make sure they get the support they need to play their best, then I believe there is no dream, no trophy, and no honor beyond their reach," he said.

The UP Men's Football Team finished third in UAAP Season 77, the first time the squad missed the finals in the last five years. The Maroon Booters last won a championship in 2012, but lost to Ateneo de Manila University and Far Eastern University in the next two years. - RAF, GMA News
