Some SEA Games 2019 events postponed due to Typhoon Tisoy
The Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) decided to postpone some scheduled events on Tuesday due to bad weather conditions brought by Typhoon Tisoy (international name: Kammuri).
According to PAGASA's 11 a.m. bulletin, Romblon, Marinduque, Mindoro provinces, Calabarzon, Metro Manila, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan may expect frequent to continuous heavy to intense rains until late Tuesday afternoon. Occasional to frequent heavy rains, meanwhile, are also likely over Bicol Region and the rest of Central Luzon.
According to a statement released by PHISGOC sports director Karen Tanchanco-Caballero on Tuesday, the schedules of the following sports are postponed:
Subic cluster
- Beach volleyball
- Canoe/kayak/traditional boat race
- Muay
- Pencak silat
- Sailing/Windsurfing
- Triathlon/Duathlon
- Modern pentathlon
- Surfing
- Sepak takraw
Southern Luzon cluster
- Underwater hockey
- Skateboarding
- Polo
Metro Manila cluster
- ESports
- Shooting (Benchrest event only)
Clark cluster
- Petanque
Meanwhile, cycling, indoor hockey, netball, floorball, badminton, fencing, football, gymnastics, tennis, weightlifting, wushu, volleyball, rugby, archery, arnis, athletics, wrestling, kurash, baseball, softball, lawn bowls, dancesport and water polo will still push through with their competition schedules.
PHISGOC added that wakeboarding, gold and aquatics are still up for further announcement.
PHISGOC chief operating officer Ramon Suzara on Monday said contingency plans are in place for the biennial meet events that will be affected by the typhoon.
Suzara also emphasized there will be no extension of the Games and only a change in format will be done.
The SEA Games officially opened at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan on Saturday. It will run until December 11. —KG, GMA News
