What Poirier plans to do after beating McGregor

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is basking in glory following his second-round technical knockout win over Conor McGregor at UFC 257.

“The Diamond” admits that his nerves got to him before the bout but all of that went away the moment he entered the cage.

“I was so nervous before, on the walkout, in the locker room but once I got under those lights, I just came to life,” said Poirier.

“I saw Conor in there and thought this is happening. I just felt like I could beat anybody in the world.”

Poirier and McGregor first met inside the cage in 2014 where McGregor won via first-round technical knockout.

For Poirier, it was not even about getting revenge, but rather about getting the win so he can provide a better future for his loved ones.

“It wasn’t even about him or the UFC. It was about me providing for my family, putting us in the best position possible, that’s what this is about. It’s about prosperity,” he stated.

Poirier, a professional fighter for twelve years with a record of 27-6, can’t tell for sure how long he wants to keep fighting.

For now, he plans to enjoy his time off with his family, not think about competing, and continue on his journey as an entrepreneur.

“I don’t know how many fights I have left, but when I walk away, I’d love to be the world champion. I’m not in a rush to fight again. I just want to go home, sell some hot sauce.” — BM, GMA News
