Margielyn Didal moves on the cusp of an Olympic seat

Margielyn Didal is one step closer to booking a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.

The Cebuana skateboarder barged into the semifinals of the 2021 Street Skateboarding World Championships in Rome on Wednesday (Manila time).

The 22-year-old ace, who is currently ranked no. 13 in the world, will compete against 26 other semifinalists led by some elite skateboarders like the world no. 12 Yumeka Oda, no. 3 Momiji Nishiya, and no. 8 Roos Zwetsloot.

The semifinals will take place on Friday to be followed by the finals showdown on Sunday.

Only 20 slots for the Summer Games are up for grabs with the three coming from this tournament while the 16 other spots will be determined through the Olympic World Skateboarding Rankings (OWSR). Host Japan has an automatic berth.

Didal won the gold medal for women's street in the 2018 Asian Games and the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. She was named Women's Asia Skater of the Year for 2020.
