Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz arrives in the Philippines

Hidilyn Diaz, the country's first ever Olympic gold medalist, is now back on home soil.

Diaz, along with her team, arrived on Wednesday afternoon via a Philippine Airlines flight.

The Filipina weightlifter earlier said she is excited to return to the Philippines and be with her family.

Prior to leaving for Japan, Diaz was in Malaysia since last year after being stranded due to the coronavirus lockdown.

"[Excited akong] ipakita sa inyo ang medalyang napanalunan ko nung isang araw at naipakita na kaya nating mga Pilipino," she said in a video obtained by GMA News' Saleema Refran.

("I'm excited to show the medal I won the other day and show that we Filipinos can do it.")

Diaz achieved the historic feat after ruling the women's weightlifting 55-kg category.

Aside from Diaz, the team of skateboarding bet Margielyn Didal also returned home on Wednesday. Didal finished seventh in the finals of the street skate event.
