Alex Eala advances to third round of US Open juniors

Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala will advance to the third round of the US Open junior girls tournament.

Eala defeated American player Charlotte Owensby, 6-3, 6-3, in the Round of 32 held Tuesday (New York time).

The No. 2 seed Eala will face Greece's Michaela Laki in the next round.

Laki defeated local player Elizabeth Coleman, 6-0, 6-4, to advance to the third round of competition.

Eala will also play in the junior doubles tournament along with Belgium's Hanne Vandewinkel.

Eala eyes another Grand Slam title in her collection after winning the French Open junior doubles last June, together with Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva.

The 16-year old ace won her first Grand Slam in the Australian Open juniors last year with Indonesian partner Priska Nugroho.

Eala also joined Wimbledon this year, but fell short in both the junior singles and doubles competition.

She won her first professional title early this year in the W15 Manacor tournament.
