How Onic PH pulled off a stunning sweep of Indonesia's RRQ Hoshi
SINGAPORE — Onic Philippines was confident it could win over RRQ Hoshi, who is dubbed as the "Indonesian King of Kings," in their Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M3 World Championship upper bracket semis showdown here.
But the Filipinos didn't see a sweep victory coming.
According to team captain Allen Jedric "Baloyskie" Baloy, defeating the best MLBB squad from Indonesia was something they thought they could pull off but sweeping them was another story.
"Of course, we're confident to win, honestly, maybe 3-1 or 3-2 but we're not confident on that [sweep] win," Baloyskie said in the post-match interview.
"It feels like we're champions because all of us were just shouting [after the win]. Definitely, this is the toughest opponent we fought here in M3."
Onic, whose sole loss came from another Indonesian team, Onic Esports, surprisingly erected a 2-0 cushion over RRQ in their best-of-five series but everything boiled down in the extended game 3.
It took the Filipinos 28 minutes and 30 seconds to close out RRQ with the late-game heroics of Baloyskie to steer Onic to the sweep victory.
It was a total team effort for the Philippines with the 23-year-old Baloyskie making up six of Onic's overall kills while also dishing out two assists. Kairi "Kairi" Rayosdelsol, meanwhile, finished with a 6-1-6 KDA en route to a 15-all kill spread.
"When we almost lost in Game 3, we just stayed chill because we know they don't have the abilities to close us out. We were really confident we could win," Baloyskie said in Filipino.
"They were committing mistakes and we just punished them for that."
"We just put our trust in each and everyone from the team whenever we commit a mistake. We just stayed focused and moved on," Kairi added.
Onic PH was the first team to book a ticket to the upper bracket finals and it's now awaiting the winner between BloodThirstyKings (BTK) and Evos SG, who will slug it out on Thursday.
