Margielyn Didal, two other Pinoys shine in Baler skateboarding tiff
Filipina skateboarder Margielyn Didal didn't disappoint the home crowd as she was part of the country's three-medal haul in the inaugural Southeast Asian Street Skateboarding Competition held in Baler, Aurora on Monday.
The 24-year-old Olympian wound up third in the women's finals with a score of 128.62 behind champion Vareeraya Sukaseem of Thailand who garnered 170.38 points to reign supreme. Another Thai bet in Nathtiyabhorn Nawatikwong settled for silver after a 150.88 finish.
In the men's finals, two Pinoy representatives finished at the podium as 19-year-old Renz Gelig claimed the silver with a score of 197.16, just 6.26 points behind winner Jarudet Sae Jao of Thailand who put together 203.42 points.
Baler's hometown bet Mak Feliciano, meanwhile, completed the medal haul as he captured the bronze medal with 194.22 output.
Didal, an Asian Games gold medalist and two-time SEA Games champion, is hoping to improve her world rankings in her bid to return to the 2024 Paris Olympics in July.
In skateboarding's debut at the previous Summer Games, Didal displayed her brilliance before she would eventually bow out of the competition.
The Cebuana bet, who currently ranks 43rd in the world and 16th in Asia, placed seventh in the street skateboarding event after tallying 12.02 points in the finals round.
