Alex Eala upsets Iga Swiatek at Miami Open
Alex Eala's dream run in the Miami Open continues as she pulled off a major upset against world no. 2 Iga Swiatek, 6-2, 7-5, on early Thursday (Philippine time) in the tournament's quarterfinals.
Eala said she was in complete disbelief after the win.
En route to the quarters, she also defeated Grand Slam champions Jelena Ostapenko (2017 French Open) in the Round of 64 and Madison Keys (2025 Australian Open) in the Round of 32.
The win against Swiatek, a 5-time Grand Slam champion, was Eala's third against a Grand Slam champion in the same tournament.

In the semis, she will have another chance to take down a Grand Slam titlist if Emma Raducanu (2021 US Open) will advance to that round as well. Jessica Pegula, Raducanu's quarters foe, reached the finals of the 2024 US Open against Aryna Sabalenka.
