EJ Obiena set for World Championships before Makati meet
Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena is set to compete in several events in Asia before returning to the Philippines for the Atletang Ayala World Pole Vault Challenge.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Obiena revealed his tournament schedule for September 2025.
“Last swing of the season,” he wrote.
His schedule includes:
- September 7 — World Athletics Continental Tour (Beijing, China)
- September 13–15 — World Athletics Championships (Tokyo, Japan)
- September 21 — Atletang Ayala World Pole Vault Challenge (Ayala Triangle, Makati City)
At the World Championships, Obiena will compete against top-tier athletes including world record holder and Olympic gold medalist Mondo Duplantis, as well as elite pole vaulters Emmanouil Karalis and Kurtis Marschall.
Several other World Championship competitors, such as Menno Vloon, Ersu Sasma, Thibaut Collet, Matt Ludwig, Ben Broeders, Oleg Zernikel, and Piotr Lisek, will also travel to the Philippines afterward to join the World Pole Vault Challenge.
Obiena previously placed second behind Duplantis at the 2023 World Championships, and bagged bronze in 2022.
