High jumper Leonard Grospe sets new national record at Philippine Athletic Championships

Leonard Grospe shattered his own mark to rule the 2026 ICTSI Philippine Athletic Championships on Friday at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium in Tarlac.

The 24-year-old Mapua University student-athlete achieved a 2.23-meter performance, shattering the previous 2.22 national and personal record he set in May during the NCAA Season 101 men's high jump event at the same venue.

Grospe, an Asian Beach Games gold medalist and 33rd Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist, tried to soar past 2.25 meters but could not clear the height.

"Sobrang masaya ako (ma-break ang record) kasi eto po yung standard sa last Asian Jumps," said Grospe, also the NCAA record holder.

Grospe's coach, Sean Guevarra added:"Actually 'yung target namin this year is 2.25 kasi nakikita namin sa preparation namin during training na capable siya mag-jump ng ganun kataas."
