EJ Obiena rules Austrian meet, captures second outdoor season title
Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena captured his second title of the 2026 outdoor season after topping the Raiffeisen Austrian Open in Eisenstadt, Austria, on Wednesday (Austria time).
Obiena cleared 5.75 meters to win the competition, finishing ahead of Great Britain's Owen Heard and the Czech Republic's Dan Barta, who both cleared 5.55 meters. This also marked a new meeting record.
The victory came just days after Obiena ruled the Czesław Cybulsski Memorial in Poland, where he cleared 5.72 meters.
Obiena opened his outdoor campaign with a runner-up finish at a meet in Germany after clearing 5.74 meters. He then placed eighth at the Diamond League Doha in Qatar with a 5.42-meter effort.
He followed that with a fourth-place finish at the FBK Games in the Netherlands, clearing 5.64 meters, before returning to the top of the podium with back-to-back victories in Poland and Austria.
