Heart Evangelista warns public about fake Instagram account

Actress Heart Evangelista has warned the public about a fake Instagram account that is using her name and one of her charitable initiatives to collect sensitive information.

The Kapuso celebrity posted a screenshot of an IG account with the handle @heartevangelis, saying: “This is not my account.”

Heart has been giving away hundreds of tablets to “students and kids who need it most” to help them with online schooling amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Using Heart’s initiative, the fake IG account has been instructing netizens to send a direct message.

Experts have warned that people create fake accounts to trick users into giving them money or personal information. 

Instagram reminds users who come across scams to avoid responding and report it.

A number of fake social media accounts and online pages taking advantage of the COVID-19 crisis have also been using the identities of Kapuso celebrities to collect sensitive information.

Experts have reminded the public to remain vigilant about fake social media accounts following the alarming number of fake accounts on Facebook using the identities of actual users. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
