Chief of fraternity linked to alleged hazing victim's death to be presented to De Lima

The highest official of the Lambda Rho Beta fraternity is set to be presented to Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to help shed light on the death of a supposed hazing victim from the San Beda College.

The Department of Justice, in an advisory to the media Thursday morning, said the fraternity leader, referred to as the Grand Rhoan, will be "turned over" to the National Bureau of Investigation for questioning shortly before noon.

"The Grand Rhoan of the Lambda Rho Beta Fraternity will be presented to the Secretary for turnover to NBI for questioning at the bureau," the DOJ said.

The Lambda Rho Beta fraternity is the counterpart of San Beda Law's Lambda Rho Sigma sorority that De Lima co-founded.

The fraternity made headlines after 25-year-old San Beda law freshman Marvin Reglos died Sunday supposedly after participating in initiation rights by the fraternity in Antipolo, Rizal.

The victim's father and sister on Wednesday met with De Lima to seek a thorough investigation on the death of their loved one. In response, the Justice secretary has already ordered a parallel probe into the incident, ordering the NBI — an attached agency of the DOJ — to re-autopsy Reglos' remains. The Philippine National Police is the lead agency probing the death.

The San Beda College of Law has already vowed to cooperate with the probe, and said it was also conducting its own investigation.

"The San Beda College of Law seems to be quiet in the middle of this tragedy but rest assured that San Beda College of Law does not toil on half-baked justice. The San Beda College of Law condemns this unlawful and dreadful act of violence," the law school said.

Reglos' remains were brought to the San Beda College premises in Manila early Wednesday, and was taken out the next day, to be brought to his home province of Isabela. — RSJ, GMA News
