Napoles will be discharged soon – Ospital ng Makati

Alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles will be discharged from the Ospital ng Makati, where she is recuperating from an operation, soon.

This, according to a report that Dr. Florentina Villanueva, head of the obstetrics and gynecological department of Ospital ng Makati submitted to Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 on Wednesday.

“Sinabi lang (sa progress report) na yung post-operative treatment ay successful, stable ang kondisyon ng pasyente and there was no complication. Ang final word ni Dr. Villanueva ay the patient will be discharged soon. Pero wala pang exact date or period,” lawyer Diosfa Valencia, branch clerk of court, told GMA News Online over the phone Friday.

She said Napoles will be recommended discharged once she is cleared by an endocrinologist and her blood sugar stabilizes.

Once discharged, Napoles will be brought back to her detention cell at Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

“Puwede silang magbigay sa court ng final progress report before i-discharge or kung may discharge order na... After, walang problema yun,” she said.

The submission of progress reports was one of the requirements issued by Judge Elmo Alameda in allowing the surgery.  The reports are meant "to deter any prolonged confinement."

The court also ordered Napoles to shoulder her medical bills.

Napoles underwent a total hysterectomy and a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy or the removal of her entire uterus and both ovaries on April 23. She was diagnosed with severe adenomyosis of the uterus with multiple adenomyomata or lumps in her uterus with multiple myomas.

At a press conference after the surgery, Dr. Efren Domingo, an obstetrician-gynecologist affiliated with St. Luke's Medical Center, said the lump was “not cancerous but neither benign, it is in transition from benign to malignant. If not treated, while not life-threatening now, it is expected to be so in the next weeks or months."

Napoles has been confined at Ospital ng Makati since March 31 after the court granted her petition to be confined in a hospital and undergo surgery.

She is under arrest over serious illegal detention charges filed by whistleblower Benhur Luy. Napoles is also facing plunder complaints in connection with the alleged pork barrel scam. — JDS, GMA News
