MMDA: Number coding suspended in Manila, San Juan
Motorists can pass through major thoroughfares in Manila and San Juan Cities on Tuesday without fear of being flagged down, as the number coding there has been lifted for the day.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority noted in an advisory on its Twitter account that June 24 is a holiday in the two cities.
"ADVISORY: No number coding today in the City of Manila and San Juan City for their respective holidays," it said.
Manila is celebrating its 443rd foundation anniversary, having been proclaimed as a city in 1571.
San Juan is marking the feast of its patron saint John the Baptist, with residents marking the occasion by dousing others with water.
Under the number coding system, vehicles are banned from major roads in Metro Manila on certain days, depending on the last digits of their license plates.
Barred from major roads on Monday are those with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
