Taxi drivers learn good manners, anger management

Over a thousand taxi drivers attended a good manners and right conduct and anger management seminar on Saturday at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board head office in Quezon City.

The seminar is aimed to help reduce the complaints against public utility vehicle drivers and prevent road accidents.

According to Tricia Zafra's report in "Balitanghali," the public utility drivers' refresher course is regularly conducted by the LTFRB but this is the first time that taxi drivers participated in the event.

This follows a string of complaints on taxi drivers' abuse of passengers recently making rounds on social media, such as the katana-wielding and rude cab drivers.

Among the topics taken up in the seminar include good manners and right conduct, personality development, proper behavior, hygiene and grooming, gender development, and anger management.

The LTFRB suggested that the drivers keep a picture of their family on their dashboard to help them manage their temper when driving. The picture would help remind the driver that his loved ones are waiting for him to come home safe and sound.

The refresher is free of charge and a test is conducted on the second day of the seminar to determine whether the participant understood what were discussed in the seminar.

Drivers, meanwhile, said Metro Manila's heavy traffic is the main cause of their hot-head bursts as they do not earn enough if they strictly follow the fare meter.

Despite the complaints on abusive cab drivers, some have redeemed their image to passengers with their polite service. — APG, GMA
