MMDA: Number coding suspended, except in Las Piñas

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday announced that the number coding scheme was suspended in almost all areas in Metro Manila due to the transport strike.

In its advisory on Twitter, MMDA said only Las Piñas has not declared the lifting of the number coding scheme.

The Makati City government has also suspended the number coding scheme.

Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON) leader George San Mateo had said that 60,000 jeepney drivers are expected to join the strike in Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Batangas, Northern Mindanao and Metro Manila.

Centers of protest actions were identified as Novaliches and Cubao in Quezon City, Monumento area in Caloocan Cith, Alabang in Muntinlupa City, and Anda Circle in Manila City.

The group is protesting the government's public utility vehicle modernization program, which also aims to phase-out smoke-belching and old passenger jeepney units. —ALG, GMA News
