MRT3 glitch forces passengers to walk along the rails
An MRT3 glitch on Monday afternoon forced train passengers to walk along the rails between Taft Avenue and Magallanes stations.
A southbound train stopped and emitted smoke at around 1 p.m., which prompted the train operator to open the doors and let the riders alight.
"Upon checking ng driver ayaw na talagang umandar and nu'ng bumaba ang driver mayroon din burn smell saka umusok," MRT3 Director Michael Capati said.
The mechanical failure temporarily halted operations from North Avenue to Shaw stations for 20 minutes.
Normal operations resumed after the affected train was removed from the track.
An investigation is ongoing to determine to identify the cause of the glitch, Capati added that this train was among those that need rehabilitation.
"Definitely 'yan tumakbo kanina, pumasa sa regular rigid training but since may edad na rin ang train so as you travel medyo nagkakaroon ng defect," he said.
The 43-month rehabilitation and maintenance of the MRT-3, led by the Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and TES Philippines, kicked off last Wednesday. — BAP, GMA News
