MMDA lifts number coding for buses on Cainta-Quiapo route
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday has lifted the number coding scheme for public utility buses plying in Cainta-Quiapo route amid Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT2) partial operations.
“This shall be in effect until LRT Line 2 resumes its normal operations,” the MMDA said in an advisory.
Starting on October 8, MMDA said the suspension of the number coding scheme or the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) was meant to provide commuters with more buses while LRT2 was under repair.
“This shall be in effect until LRT Line 2 resumes its normal operations,” MMDA added.
The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has been running partial commercial operations in LRT2 from Cubao to Recto, following the fire that hit the rectifiers between the Anonas and Katipunan stations.
Asked if the MMDA would also suspend the number coding scheme for jeeps playing the same route, MMDA traffic chief Bong Nebrija said, "We’ll start with the buses first because they have higher occupancy."
"We need to check the passenger demand baka naman kasi ma-over service yung route. LTFRB knows very well how to check that," Nebrija told GMA News Online. —NB, GMA News
