Valenzuela borrows hotel to house and feed the homeless
After reminding his constituents to thank themselves and not the city officials for the aid they are receiving during the enhanced community quarantine, Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian is now turning his attention to the homeless.
On Twitter Sunday, Gatchalian shared that Bahay Kalinga — the city's halfway house for the homeless and battered children — has been on lock down since March 1 "ahead of the ECQ to protect all its residents."
So what do they do with the increasing number of homeless people roaming about Valenzuela? The city government has borrowed a hotel to house them.
"So now na ang daming dumadayo na mga homeless we borrowed a hotel to house them," Gatchalian continued.
We have a fully functional half way house of our homeless and battered children...bahay kalinga. But we put this house in lock down since march 1 ahead of the ecq to protect all its residents.

"There are given a chance to bath and then we house them sa Pisces Resort where we serve them meals, salamat sa owners ng resort for lending us their facility," Gatchalian added.

The homeless are among the hardest hit of the enhanced community quarantine, which the government has put in place since March 17 to curb the spread of coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19).
Among the first to respond to their needs are institutions like De La Salle's College of Saint Benilde and the Archdiocese of Manila which quickly provided temporary shelters for the homeless. With the ECQ extended to the end of April, it's nice that LGUs like Valenzuela are responding to them as well. — LA, GMA News
