Half of a three-story house fell into the creek after its foundation was heavily eroded. Authorities said the structure was being utilized as storage area for the owner’s glass and aluminum business.
The brother of the house’s owner, Alexander Food, said he was shocked at seeing a part of the house already in the water.
Barangay Chairman Cornelio Pabustan said the owner of the house had not been home for some time now.
"Dahil sa tagal na 'yung pundasyon niya kinain na ng tubig kaya siguro bumigay 'yung sa side ng ilog," Pabustan said.
Authorities reminded residents near the river to remain alert and cautious when it rains and to immediately evacuate should the water level increase.
In a statement, the QC government said its Department of Building Official has already recommended the filing of a criminal complaint against the owner of the house for violation of Section 301 of the National Building Code.
Local authorities have likewise recommended the reclamation of the five-meter easement, as well as the building of a retaining wall to reinforce the structure against erosion.
Informal settlers living around the area where the structure sits have also been recommended to be relocated. —KG/MDM, GMA News
