Taguig opens third COVID-19 vaccination site

Taguig City on Thursday opened in Bicutan its third COVID-19 vaccination site, which is also its first community inoculation center.

The newly opened vaccination site at the RP Cruz Elementary School in Barangay New Lower Bicutan will complement the mega vaccination hubs in the Lakeshore area and at the Vista Mall Parking Building.

"Our target here is not only speed but safety, efficiency and accessibility. Our mega vaccine hubs and our community vaccine centers will help us hit our objectives. This will open the opportunity for more citizens to get vaccinated," Mayor Lino Cayetano said in a statement.

Nearly 1,000 senior citizens and persons with comorbidities received a COVID-19 vaccine in Taguig on Thursday.

Further, the city's inoculation sites will remain open even on Black Saturday, in a bid to hasten the vaccine rollout.

Likewise, the local government said it plans to include the COVID-19 vaccines developed by Novavax, IP Biotech, and Moderna to its portfolio that already includes AstraZeneca and Sinovac.

Nationwide, 738,913 individuals have received their first dose as of March 30.

On Thursday afternoon, the Philippines recorded 756,199 COVID-19 cases, 138,948 of which are active.  —LBG, GMA News
