Malabon barangay chairman dead after being shot outside of own house

The barangay chairman who was shot outside of his own residence by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon City has died on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Police Colonel Albert Barot, Malabon chief of police, confirmed the death of 68-year-old barangay official Filemon Villanueva at 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, according to a Super Radyo dzBB report.

Barot earlier reported that the shooting incident happened past 9 a.m. on Saturday. The victim was just sitting outside his house on C. Perez Street when the back rider in a motorcycle riding in tandem shot him.

Villanueva, who sustained gunshot wounds in the abdomen and leg, was brought to a hospital after the incident but he passed away hours later.

According to Jamie Santos' report on “24 Oras” weekend, the victim's wife, Delima Villanueva, was grief-stricken.

She insisted that Filemon never quarreled with anyone during his four years of service in the barangay.

“Nagulat talaga kami kasi wala naman siyang kaaway… tuwing umaga lumalabas talaga siya, nagpapakain siya--pinapakain niya mga nag-jogging, volunteer,” Delima said.

(We were surprised because he had no enemies… every morning he goes out, he feeds everyone--joggers, volunteers.)

“Sana malaman kung sinong gumawa nun kasi wala naman siyang kagalit,” she added.

(I hope we find out who did this because he has no enemies.)

The Malabon City police said investigation regarding the matter is still ongoing.

They are also coordinating with two people who had witnessed the shooting incident. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA News
