At a public briefing, MMDA Task Force Special Operations chief Bong Nebrija said that a total of 1,588 violators have been recorded on Monday.

(From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. today, we recorded 2,939 vehicles that were apprehended.)

“Pinagsabihan po natin ‘yung mga motorista at mga drivers na ito upang sa ganun malaman po nila na effective na po yung expanded number coding,” he added.

(We reminded these motorists and drivers that the expanded number coding scheme is already effective.)

The MMDA started to implement the expanded number coding scheme on Monday, which is imposed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are prohibited on Monday, 3 and 4 on Tuesday, 5 and 6 on Wednesday, 7 and 8 on Thursday, 9 and 0 on Friday during the mentioned coding hours.

According to the MMDA, the agency will not apprehend violators from August 15 to 17 for the public to be aware of the policy, but will start issuing tickets on August 18.

Nebrija advised affected motorists to plan their travel and use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion. — RSJ, GMA News
