Pasig police eyes charges vs protesters at Discaya property
The Pasig City Police on Monday said it is planning to file a complaint against the organizers of the protests at the Discayas’ property last week.
“In the part of the PNP, we are also contemplating on filing a case against the identified organizers in violation of the [Batas Pambansa Bilang 880]...” Pasig City police chief Police Colonel Hendrix Mangaldan said in a press briefing.
“Walang permit, so yung [Batas Pambansa Bilang 880] is a law that sets the provisions and penalties dito sa mga ganito na mga rallies being done sa mga public areas na walang permit,” he added.
(There is no permit, so Batas Pambansa Bilang 880 is a law that sets the provisions and penalties for these kinds of rallies being done in public areas without a permit.)
According to Mangaldan, the camp of the Discayas is also preparing an affidavit for a possible complaint against the protesters.
On September 4, several protesters threw mud, vandalized, and shook the gate of a property of the Discayas in Pasig City amid the probe into anomalous flood control projects.
The next day, more rallyists returned and staged a performance depicting contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya, as well as Mark Allan Arevalo of now blacklisted Wawao Builders as “ghosts,” referencing their supposed involvement in ghost projects.
The Discaya camp has denied irregularities in their flood control projects.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called for an investigation into anomalous flood control projects as many parts of the country have been submerged amid heavy rains in the past months.
The Discaya family reportedly owns several companies that have landed several of these said projects.Several government agencies, as well as the Senate and the House of Representatives, have launched their respective investigations into the matter. — RF, GMA Integrated News
