The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said clearing and safety works continued on Sunday at the EDSA-Ortigas Interchange ahead of its reopening to light vehicles on Monday, April 27.

In a Facebook post, the DPWH said clearing and cleanup operations were ongoing in portions of the interchange, along with the reinstallation of road safety devices in preparation for reopening.

The agency also said it would conduct load testing on Sunday afternoon in compliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure the structure is safe for motorists.

“Magsasagawa rin ng load testing ngayong hapon ang DPWH bilang tugon sa utos ng Pangulo na siguruhing maayos at ligtas na muling daanan ng mga motorista ang nasabing kalsada,” the DPWH said.

(The DPWH will also conduct load testing this afternoon in response to the President’s order to ensure the road is safe for motorists.)

The interchange was temporarily closed on Sunday for testing and repair works following a bus fire along the southbound lane on Friday, which prompted safety inspections and structural assessment.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the closure allowed the DPWH to clear affected areas, reinstall damaged safety devices, and conduct load testing.

The MMDA earlier said the EDSA-Ortigas Interchange would reopen on Monday, April 27, but only for light vehicles.

The DPWH added that retrofitting and repair works will continue on affected portions to ensure long-term safety for motorists.—MCG, GMA News
