Part of EDSA-Ortigas Interchange was temporarily closed to motorists on Sunday for testing and other repair work. It will also undergo retrofitting and repair, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

The MMDA added the move is necessary to ensure motorists' safety after a bus caught fire along EDSA-Ortigas southbound on Friday.

The Department of Public Works and Highways will conduct the following activities at the Interchange on Sunday, April 26, according to a letter sent by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon to MMDA:

  • clearing and cleaning of affected areas;
  • reinstallation of damaged road safety devices; and
  • conduct of load testing on the EDSA-Ortigas Interchange.

The MMDA will thus implement temporary rerouting for northbound left turning vehicles to EDSA-Ortigas at-grade intersection.

The EDSA-Ortigas Interchange will be open starting Monday, April 27, but only for light or small vehicles.

The DPWH said retrofitting and repair works will be done on the affected segments to make the interchange safe for all motorists.
