Man brandishing gun in Makati-Taguig viral incident surrenders firearm — PNP
A man identified as a licensed protection agent who was seen brandishing a firearm after a multiple vehicle collision incident in the Taguig and Makati area has surrendered his weapon, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.
At a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said the protection agent turned over his .45 caliber pistol and submitted an affidavit regarding the incident.
“Nakilala na po natin 'yung individual na may hawak po ng firearms o baril. Isa po siyang protection agent individual, meaning ito po ay nagbibigay ng protection sa mga individual na nangangailangan. Siya po ay 51 years old,” he said.
(We have identified the individual who was seen holding a firearm or a gun. He is a protection agent, meaning he provides protection to individuals in need. He is 51 years old.)
“Kaugnay din po nito, sinurender niya 'yung kanyang firearms na nakita natin doon sa viral video. Isang caliber .45,” he added.
(Also related to this, he surrendered his firearms that we saw in the viral video. A caliber .45.)
The incident on April 24 began in Taguig City when a Nissan pickup truck collided with a sedan and a motorcycle. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene and later figured in another collision in Makati City involving an SUV, prompting motorists to chase the vehicle.
Footage that went viral online showed the protection agent brandishing a firearm and intervening during the commotion, while another individual was seen damaging the pickup’s tire.
Authorities said the protection agent is not currently employed by any private security agency and has no active deployment authority from the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG).
Despite holding valid licenses, such as license to own and possess firearms and a protection agent license, the PNP pointed out that he was not officially assigned to protect any individual at the time of the incident.
Issued in 2024, the man’s license as protection agent is valid until 2029.
The protection agent claimed in his affidavit that he intervened to protect the pickup driver from motorists who were allegedly attempting to mob him. However, authorities noted inconsistencies between his statement and available CCTV footage.
He may face possible charges including alarm and scandal and possible revocation of his firearms license.
Authorities added a separate complaint for malicious mischief may be filed against another individual seen puncturing the pickup’s tire using a motorcycle key. —AOL, GMA News
