1 minor dead in stabbing incident in Sampaloc, Manila
A 16-year-old boy was declared dead on arrival at a hospital after he was stabbed in Sampaloc, Manila early Friday, June 19.
According to a report by GMA News’s Jhomer Apresto on "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, CCTV footage showed a group of boys rushing the victim to the hospital aboard a pedicab in Barangay 432.
The victim reportedly sustained stab wounds to the neck.
Barangay officials said the teenager was allegedly stabbed by fellow minors while they were drinking along Geronimo Street. A heated argument reportedly broke out, which led to the attack.
Another CCTV footage showed the victim clutching his neck as several boys tried to help him before he eventually collapsed on the ground.
Meanwhile, the minor suspect was also caught on camera holding the knife while fleeing the scene.
His mother was seen trying to take the weapon away from him. Moments later, nearby residents attempted to bring him to the barangay hall, but he managed to escape.
The 17-year-old suspect was later arrested and will be brought to the Boys Town Complex under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
“While his age will not be a hindrance in the filing of charges, the court will be the one to determine the trial process,” said Manila Police District Station 4 commander Bryan Sagayadoro.
In a separate incident in Sampaloc, another minor was attacked by a group of youths last Thursday, June 18, with one of them stabbing him.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but remains unconscious. Doctors said one of his kidneys was hit.
Two of the 10 minor suspects in that incident have been arrested and will also be turned over to the DSWD.
