Fire hits residential area in Valenzuela City
A fire broke out in a residential area in Valenzuela City early Monday morning and affected around 250 residents, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.
The fire started at around 1 a.m. in Sitio Kabatuhan, Barangay Gen. T. de Leon, according to a report by Bam Alegre on GMA News’ Unang Balita.
The BFP raised the incident to the third alarm, prompting the deployment of at least 12 fire trucks, along with several fire volunteer groups.
Firefighters encountered difficulties responding because of the narrow paths inside the residential area.
Some firefighters also had to spray water from a bridge because the affected houses were located on a slope.
The fire was declared under control before 5 a.m.
Around 40 structures with 85 families or 250 individuals were affected.
Residents said the fire spread quickly.
One resident recalled hearing neighbors shouting warnings to evacuate.
Another resident said that when they opened their door after being alerted to the fire, flames had already reached their roof.
The cause of the fire and the amount of property damage have yet to be determined as the BFP continues its investigation. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
