Malacañang suspends gov’t work, classes starting 1 p.m., Aug. 28

Malacañang has announced the suspension of work in government offices and classes at all levels in public and private schools in the Metro Manila and other areas starting 1 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, due to the inclement weather.

Under Memorandum Circular No. 132, government work and classes are suspended in the following areas this afternoon:

  • National Capital Region
  • Abra
  • Benguet
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Bataan
  • Bulacan
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Pampanga
  • Tarlac
  • Zambales
  • Batangas
  • Cavite
  • Rizal
  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Occidental Mindoro

LIVE UPDATES: Habagat rains affect parts of PH on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026

This was upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and in anticipation of the further enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat by a Low Pressure Area that has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Government agencies providing basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital services will continue to operate.

Local chief executives may also suspend classes and/or work in government offices in their respective areas.

In the private sector, the suspension of work or adoption of alternative work arrangements will be left to management. —VAL, GMA News
