43 reported dead due to Habagat, cyclones Luis, Maymay, Neneng, Pilandok —NDRRMC

Forty-three individuals reportedly died after the rains from the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and Pilandok battered parts of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

In the latest NDRRMC data issued at 6 p.m. of September 5, most of the deaths were due to landslide and drowning. There were also deaths caused by electrocution and fallen tree.

The fatalities were recorded in Benguet (15), La Union (1), Pangasinan (3), Zambales (3), Pampanga (2), Rizal (6), Batangas (4), Quezon (2), Oriental Mindoro (1), Occidental Mindoro (2), Negros Occidental (1), and Caloocan (3).

On the other hand, 20 were reported injured. These were logged in Ilocos Sur, Benguet, Abra, Quezon City, Rizal, and Cavite.

There were also five individuals reportedly missing. They were from Quezon City, Manila, Batangas, Rizal, and Pampanga.

The weather disturbances also affected 2.9 million families or 10.2 million individuals. They were recorded in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, National Capital Region, and Western Visayas.

In 814 evacuation centers, there were 18,299 families or 62,791 currently seeking temporary shelter.

When it comes to damaged houses, 3,882 are partially torn while 585 others were totally destructed.

According to PAGASA, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will continue to affect Luzon and Visayas, bringing occasional rains and thunderstorms over several areas on Sunday. —KG, GMA News
