NBI agents seize P2M worth of computers using pirated software
MANILA, Philippines — Desktop and laptop computers worth P2 million were seized from three shops in Quezon City after they were found to contain unauthorized software, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Saturday. Acting on a complaint lodged by Microsoft Corporation, NBI agents swooped down on Wow-PC Laptop & Electronic Shop and BGPC Computer Parts & Service Center at Gilmore IT Center in New Manila; and ARX Computer Center located inside Robinsons Galleria on Ortigas Avenue corner Edsa Head Agent Claro de Castro, chief of the NBI Interpol Division, said the bureau secured a search warrants fromExecutive Judge Reynaldo Ros of the Manila Regional Trial Court after agents confirmed during a surveillance operation that the three shops were, indeed, using pirated Microsoft operation systems. De Castro said the NBI confiscated 110 desktops and eight laptop computers allegedly containing unauthorized copies of Microsoft software, along with CD installers. He said the owners of the three erring shops were charged with violation of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. - GMANews.TV
