Osmeña is Leni Robredo's adviser

Senator Sergio Osmeña III admitted Tuesday that he is helping in the vice presidential campaign of Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo.

In an interview with reporters, Osmeña said he is helping Robrero in developing her message, outlining her strategy, and teaching her some of the tactics that are useful in the campaign.

“Marami 'yan e. It’s (campaign) a science already,” he told reporters.

Osmeña previously helped in the campaigns of President Benigno Aquino III and the Liberal Party, and Senators Francis Escudero, and Grace Poe.

Osmeña said that as early as last year, he already committed to help Robredo when the congresswoman told him that she might run for senator.

“When she asked me if I would help her, I said sure. And now she is running for vice president, I think that I was the first to suggest her name around three months ago 'di ba, I think she will make a good vice president,” he said.

He described Robredo as "quite silent."

"Hindi pa hasa sa national campaign. She’s been actually used to local campaigns because her husband (Jesse Robredo) was mayor of Naga five times. But she’d get there and she has a very good campaign manager in Sen. Bam Aquino,” he said.

Osmeña expressed confidence that Robredo’s numbers will improve after the airing of her first commercial. He declined to say when it will be released.

He said Robredo’s advantage over her rivals is her being the wife of Jesse Robredo.

“Her edge is she has a narrative. She has a story to tell, she was a partner in the saga of Jesse Robredo. She was the partner in the installation of good government in the City of Naga, in the district in Camarines Sur which she is now representing,” he said.

“It is a wonderful narrative, it’s an ideal story about a young couple that worked their way to helping their people progress because Naga City has certainly judged as one of the more progressive  local government units in the whole country and everybody acknowledges that Jesse Robredo  was one of the outstanding public servants,” he added.

Osmeña said he will also help Robredo show her uniqueness among her rivals.

“[Her being the only woman contender is] definitely an advantage, but she has to project that and we are very confident that she will be able to project that,” he added. —ALG, GMA News
