Cops kill 900 drug suspects as Duterte’s war on drugs continues


A total of 900 drug suspects have been killed as of Wednesday morning as a result of the Duterte administration's campaign against illegal drugs.

Records from the Philippine National Police (PNP) also showed that as of 6 a.m. August 31, a total of 627,358 drug suspects have surrendered, of which 41,247 were suspected pushers.

At least 565,131 houses have been visited as part of Oplan Tokhang, where police officers visit houses to ask suspected drug users and pushers to surrender and stop their illegal operations.

A total of 12,930?? drug suspects have been arrested in 8,073 operations conducted within the period.

On Monday, three individuals including a barangay councilor were arrested in separate operations conducted by the operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Ilocos Norte, Zambales, and Oriental Mindoro.

Joint elements of the CIDG's regional office in Mimaropa (4-B) and the Calapan City Police Station arrested Lorna Macan, incumbent councilor of Barangay Libis, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, during a buy-bust operation Monday evening.

Confiscated from her possession were eight sachets of shabu and marked money.

Superintendent Zacarias Noel Villegas, chief of the CIDG regional office, reported that Macan is listed as a high-value target (HVT) drug personality.

In Barangay Victoria, Currimao, Ilocos Norte, Ronel Aglipay was apprehended around 8:30 a.m. by operatives of the Ilocos Norte CIDG, together with the Currimao town's police during a buy-bust operation.

Confiscated from Aglipay's possession were one sachet of shabu and marked money.

Senior Superintendent Amando Lagiwid, regional chief of CIDG-1 (Ilocos Region) said Aglipay was listed as the top drug personality of Currimao town.

Ariel Soriano, listed as the No. 3 drug personality of the Olongapo City Police Office and No. 9 drug personality of Zambales CIDG, was arrested by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest (WOA) in Barangay Baretto, Olongapo City, Zambales. around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Superintendent Edwin Quilates, regional chief of the CIDG in Central Luzon, said Soriano was wanted for three counts of violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act).

Quilates said Soriano was a member of criminal gang called the "Salimar Barazar Group." —ALG, GMA News
